Dog leads
Hello and Welcome to Winston’s Nautical Leads.
Our leads are handmade in the coastal city of Plymouth.
Our 8 year old, Old Tyme Bulldog Winston gave us the inspiration to start making dog leads as he needed a lead that was strong, whilst out on nice walks.
We have always enjoyed making items from rope, which stemmed from working as a commercial diver for nearly 10 years where I would use various rope techniques on a daily basis!
Each lead is handmade to order making them unique which you can design yourself from the products below.
Materials used:
- All materials are locally sourced.
- Items are made with a 3 strand natural hemp or black polyester marine rope which is extremely strong, lightweight and hard wearing, with the highest u/v stability for long life.
- Each lead is secured with traditional splicing and sailmakers whipping using heavy waxed twine and traditional techniques that have been used over many years.
- The hardware used is antique brass which will age beautifully.
- There may be some slight variations in length which are to be expected.
- Each lead is handmade to order making them unique, which you can design yourself from the products below.

Slip Lead
Standard length, 150cm from top of handle to the brass O-ring at the bottom.

Double Lead
Standard length, 200cm. 50cm of which is from the integrated O-ring to the handle. If you unclip the handle the lead can then be at its longest length so you have the option of clipping both clips to your dog’s harness to make the lead shorter.

4. Extras:
Lead Couplers
Extra £20
Lead couplers are great if you have more than one dog, this will be much easier to use without lead’s tangling around each other when you’re out on those adventurous walks.
These couplers will come at a standard length of 40cm and 12mm rope.
O-ring
Extra £1
You can add a brass O-ring to your handle which is handy for keys or doggy bags.
Dog Collars
£15
This is an extra option if you would like your dog to have a matching lead which will give your dog a stylish look. For this item I ask if you can please measure your dog’s neck where a collar would naturally sit using a tailors tape, with two fingers in between so it doesn’t fit too tight
Available in 10mm or 12mm rope.
FAQ
How do I clean my lead?
The materials used on these leads are waterproof and will last in the harshest conditions. To remove any mud or dirt we would recommend cleaning them with fresh water using a cloth along the lead and clips. Once your satisfied, hang them up to dry.
When will my order be dispatched?
Leads will be processed and completed within 7 working days.
What size lead would be suitable for my dog?
- 10mm – small dogs
- 12mm – medium/ large dogs
- 14mm – large/ XL dogs
How much is postage?
Postage is an addition cost. We use Royal Mail second class, unless requested otherwise by yourselves.
